Prop 8 & The Gay Blood Ban

Today in a historic ruling, the Ninth District Court ruled that California’s voter-approved ban on same-sex marriages (Prop 8) violated the United States Constitution.

Today we took another step towards equity.  We are extremely pleased with the Court’s decision.  The Court stated, “Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California.”

We hope that the LGBTQA community continues to make strides towards equality, including, but not limited to, overturning the FDA’s gay blood ban.  We urge America to remember that California marriage law may no longer “lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians,” the FDA’s blood ban still does.
